From an idea by Fabrizio Castano, The Dead Men Tale is an 8-issue swashbuckling adventure comic where fiction and history intertwine to portray the twilight of piracy. Inspired by real historical figures like Charles Johnson, Robert Maynard, Calico Jack, and Woods Rogers, the project explores the pirate myth through a deeply human lens, turning high-seas adventure into a story of identity, loyalty, and loss.

The Caribbean. The golden age of piracy is coming to an end, and only one pirate remains: James Hook, the outcast, the Black Spot.

When the writer Charles Johnson is kidnapped and dragged into a hunt for Henry Every’s legendary treasure by the elusive Hook, he becomes caught in a war between freedom and authority, ambition and vengeance.
The relentless pirate-hunter Maynard and the spineless Governor Rogers are determined to wipe out piracy forever, while Hook dreams of building a refuge for the last free men of the sea, the outlaws, the dreamers.
Amid heists, betrayals, and brutal duels, Charles must decide where to stand — and more importantly, which story, what legacy, he wants to leave behind.
